The L.C. Bird Skyhawks boys and girls basketball teams both faced Dominion rival Cosby on Friday. Both teams came into the double-header undefeated, and both teams left that way too as the girls defeated Cosby in overtime 63-54 and the boys cruised to a 76-46 in a blowout.
Last Saturday marked the end to the Chesterfield Quarterback League 2011 season. A season that started over four months ago culminated into the final games of the season: the Super Bowl for Minors, Juniors and Seniors and the Senior Bowl for the Super Seniors.
Something big happened when the Marguerite Christian Junior football team won their Chesterfield Quarterback League Super Bowl Championship Saturday 18-0 over Clover Hill led by Head Coach Brian Foutz with touchdowns scored by Kameron Lewis, Maxwell Oxendine and Tre’ Tillman.
Andrew White, from Chester and formerly of Thomas Dale high school’s basketball team has verbally committed to play at the University of Kansas. The commitment came last Friday, but under NCAA rules White won’t be eligible to sign officially until the regular signing period that begins on April 11, 2012.
Fresh off a win over Varina to advance to their second straight regional title game, the Lloyd C. Bird Skyhawks had a tall task in defeating Hermitage on their home field. The game was largely a defensive battle, and in the end Bird’s turnovers played a key role in the outcome.
