L.C. Bird has long been known for its football prowess.After the past two seasons for the boys’ basketball program, the Skyhawks have become a force to be reckoned with again on the hardwood. At 10-2 and 6-1 in the Dominion District, Bird is likely headed towards the postseason for a third straight year.

L.C. Bird High School hosted its first holiday tournament over Christmas break, bringing competition from all over the state to compete, including: Landstown, Norview, Nansemond River, Middleburg Academy and Meadowbrook.

Skyhawks football wins first state title in school’s history

A sports adage says that “defense wins championships.” That statement couldn’t have been truer for the L.C. Bird Skyhawks on Saturday in the Group AAA Division Six State Championship. Bird took the lead on a 67-yard touchdown run by running back Paul Robertson with 5:57 to go in the second quarter and protected that lead the rest of the way.
