Knights, Warriors ousted early in regional playoffs

The Matoaca Warriors earned a field hockey regional berth by advancing to the conference 12 tournament final last week. The ladies won regular season championship before falling to Prince George in the final, but faced Lee Davis (18-1) in the first round of regionals on Monday, losing 3-1.

Skyhawk passing attack takes flight

Long known for its running attack, L.C. Bird needed something to get over the hump and into the promised land. A tall, athletic quarterback with a big arm from Henrico transferred to Bird last season when his family moved into the district. A state championship later, that quarterback is now a senior – Terrance Ervin.

Skyhawks making a statement on the volleyball court

The season head coach Sarah Iruegas arrived in 2010 the Skyhawks girls volleyball team played to a 2-16 record. The program progressively improved over the course of the past three years and this year’s Lady Skyhawks are 11-6 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference 12 play.
