I thought that I would give you a miniature “How to” manual when it comes to some of the fires or problems that may occur in your home. Of course, the best way to never have to use any of these things that I am about to tell you is to never have a fire.

Swift Creek Baptist Church, located at 18510 Branders Bridge Road, Colonial Heights, will offer Saddle Ridge Ranch Vacation Bible School Monday, Aug. 2, to Friday, Aug. 6. It will be held daily from 9 a.m. until noon that week. Area children in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to attend. There will be crafts, activities and refreshments served daily. Also, an adult class for adults of all ages will be offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and the Youth Vacation Bible School will be offered Tuesday, Aug. 3, through Thursday, Aug. 5, from noon to 3 p.m.

The Mid-Cities Civic Association will host an Elvis Tribute and Legend Show featuring local entertainer Randy Roe on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. The Mid-Cities Civic Association is located at 9010 Quinnford Blvd, Richmond. Admission is $15. A percentage of the money earned by the show will go back into the community. For more information, call 229-7923.

HHFI summer children’s program Aug. 12-13

Emma Days, a summer children’s program sponsored each year by the Historic Hopewell Foundation, Inc. (HHFI) at Weston Plantation now has a new name. This year, the program will be known as Emma and George Days, according to information from HHFI. Emma and George Days is a two-day learning event for children ages 8 to 12. Through activities, exploration, crafts and games, students gain an appreciation for history and life in a time long past. This year, Emma and George Days will be held on August 12-13, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $15 per child.

Henricus to present Children of 1622 camp

Henricus Historical Park will present Children of 1622: Early Colonial America Camp Aug. 10-12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Campers aged 11-16 will learn various activities, such as carpentry, blacksmithing, musketeer drills, weeding and watering the gardens, laundry and sewing. Campers can make history come alive and learn how to be colonial re-enactors. As a costumed colonial re-enactor, they can share what they have learned with visitors at Henricus. Pre-registration is required. The fee is $110 for members and $130 for non-members.

Join Chester UMC for Mission Sunday

Chester United Methodist Church has planned a Mission Sunday on Aug. 8. Instead of attending a worship service, volunteers will take on various projects, such as collecting and sorting donations to the food pantry, assembling and organizing snacks for the Backpack Ministry, cleaning up along Ecoff road, performing general repairs and lawn care for assigned homes, landscaping at Pathways in Petersburg, visiting area nursing homes and supporting Branches, a Florida ministry affected by a recent fire.
