Historical Society offers Girl Scout badge workshop, paranormal tour

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) in partnership with the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer a selection of historical programs for Girl Scouts and families during June.

The Girl Scout Junior Geocaching skill builder workshop will be held on Saturday, June 29 from 2 p.m. -4 p.m. at Eppington Plantation, 14201 Eppes Falls Rd. Girls will learn to use GPS receivers and to locate GPS coordinates, about common types of caches and make a trade item for a cache.

Saturday, June 29, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.; cost $10.

Arts Center, Library art exhibit opens July 6

The Chester Library Art Exhibit for July and August is “Ground Metal Art by Stephen Lloyd. The exhibit will be July 6 - August 31. The opening reception is scheduled to be July 6, 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Maud Hurt Meeting Room. The artist’s reception is provided by the Artist’s Reception Committee of the Chesterfield Center for the Arts Foundation. Artist Stephen Lloyd is a VCU graduate. This exhibit is created from works made from aluminum and transparent urethane paint that create the look of a hologram on metal.

Local church launches LifeUpgrade Workshops

Christian Life Church, a non-denominational church based in Chester, announces the launch of LifeUpgrade workshops for personal development.

LifeUpgrade workshops are specifically designed to help folks in the community develop the skills they need to succeed in life. The first series is focused on job placement/career development. “These classes provide a tremendous opportunity for gaining ground in the job market by building self-confidence,” said Robin Moore, Team Lead for LifeUpgrade.

Title lenders set for BOS decision June 26

During a meeting last month of Chesterfield’s Planning Commission, four auto title lending cases were approved. The five member commission reviewed the conditional-use requests, for vehicle-lenders before they will be considered by the Board of Supervisors (BOS) on June 26.

It was a glorious day at the Chester Farmer’s Market Saturday on the Village Green in Chester. After being soaked on the previous Saturday, all the vendors and customers enjoyed the bright sunshine and comfortable temperature. Twelve vendors participated.

Armed with a big left-handed bat and a full scholarship to East Carolina University, Harman had a big season for Bird this year. The Washington Nationals inquired about drafting Harman in the fourth round, but the Skyhawk standout elected to attend college, perhaps hoping to further improve his draft stock.

Coleman started all 40 games he appeared in as a sophomore for the Trojans. The former Warrior complied a .302 batting average and drove in 27 runs, good to rank third on the team. The sports management major was a part of the Warriors teams that made three straight regional tournament apperances.
