The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing April 14 on a proposed fee increase for the adoption of spayed or neutered animals from the county animal shelter.
The proposed code amendments raise the fee for adopting a dog or cat from $10 to $60, and specify that no fee will be charged for transfers of unsterilized animals to any animal rescue or humane society validly designated as a nonprofit organization.
According to a staff report on the matter, the supervisors adopted a resolution in December regarding the sheltering of animals at the county facility. In part, the resolution called for sterilizing all healthy, adoptable companion animals before their adoption, the report says. Bids were requested, and a contract for spay and neuter services has been awarded, it says.
The increased adoption fee will defray the sterilization cost, the report says. The services provided will also include a rabies shot, it says.
The public hearing will take place during the Board of Supervisors 6:30 p.m. meeting.
