The Kiwanis Club of Chester inducted two new members at their Monday evening meeting on March 12, 2012. Chris Bates was sponsored by Ron Jaeckle and member Noelle Grosso sponsored Janice Kaiser.
Chris Bates has lived in Chester for 10 years and Central Virginia for 53 years.
His wife, Ruth Ann, is the Social Worker Director at Central State Hospital, and Chris works facility maintenance at Fort Lee. They have three grown children. Chris is no stranger to civic association work. Just a few of his many roles have included: Past President of the J.S. Reynolds Circle K, Past President of the Chesterfield Ruritan, Life Member of the Virginia Jaycees, and member of the Bon Air Rotary. He is also an MP sergeant in the Virginia Defense Force.
Janice Kaiser was born in Bethlehem, Pa. She moved to Annapolis, Md. after graduating from Penn State, and worked for over 34 years as a teacher and Guidance Counselor at both high school and middle school levels in Anne Arundel County. She earned her Master degrees from Univ. of Maryland, and Johns Hopkins University After retirement she and her husband moved to Mount Pleasant, S.C. where she worked with special education students as a Transition Specialist and homebound teacher. She moved to Chester in November 2011 and is looking forward to getting involved in the community and local education.
Janice is married to Bob Kaiser who is also retired.
