Thomas Dale, while celebrating their rivalry with L.C. Bird, inducted six new members into their Ring of Champions. This was the fourth induction of outstanding Thomas Dale athletes into the ring.
This year’s inductees were:
Bill Goodwyn, class of 1954- Goodwyn was a four year letterman in football, baseball, and basketball, playing for the current field’s namesake and legendary coach Ed Karpus.
He graduated from Hampden Sydney in 1960, where he played football and basketball at the collegiate level. After his time as an athlete, he also served on the Chesterfield County School Board for four years.
Bobby Lohr, class of 1959- During his time at Dale, Lohr lettered in four sports- football, basketball, baseball and track. He was named the 1957-58 athlete of the year at Thomas Dale and won a Metro Batting Championship in 1958. After high school, he went on to play college football at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina.
David Stowers, class of 1971- Stowers has been voted one of the top five players in Thomas Dale basketball history by the Richmond-Times Dispatch. He was a part of Dale’s first Central District champions in 1970, and averaged better than 20 points per game in his junior and senior seasons.
