The holiday season is just around the corner and plans are underway for the 2011 Chester Kiwanis Christmas Parade. The parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m., beginning at the Chester YMCA on Route 10 and ending at the Chester Village Green. Closure of roads affected by parade traffic will begin at 1:45 p.m.
The theme of this year’s event is “An Old Fashioned Christmas.” Parade entrants will represent Christmas as it was cherished long ago. Parade units will compete for awards in five categories: Best Marching Unit, Best Performing Unit, Best Equestrian Unit, Best Fire/EMS Unit and Best Float. Judging will be based on appearance, crowd appeal, and originality.
Registration for parade participation is $40 per entry and due to lack of staging space, will be limited to 50 units. The deadline for entry is Dec. 1, 2011. Late entries will not be accepted. Entry forms may be obtained at www.chesterkiwanis.org or from any Chester Kiwanis member. For further information, contact Angie McDaniel, Parade Chairperson, at email@example.com or (804) 240-5611.
