The Shepherd’s Center of Chesterfield, a non-profit organization providing transportation, handyman services and classes for adults over 50, will host a silent auction at ChesterFest from 10a.m.-5p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Village Green complex in Chester.
For those unfamiliar with silent auctions, items for auction will be on display during the event. A bid sheet is available with each item, containing the item’s actual value, the minimum starting bid, and the bidding increment required ($2 increase per bid, etc). Anyone wanting to bid on an item writes in their name and bid on the bid sheet. At the end of the auction period, the individual placing the highest bid “wins” the item – after paying for it, of course.
Local businesses and individuals have donated gift baskets, gift cards, new products, antiques and services to the Shepherd’s Center for this auction. Since the auction will occur throughout the day, a series of mini-auctions will occur every hour starting at 10 a.m. Items will be color-coded to indicate the time the bidding indicating when that item will end.
At that point, the “winning” (highest) bidder will have a short time to appear and claim their item; otherwise, the item will be available to the next highest bidder. Anyone who can’t stay until the end of the auction period for an item can pay the “buy now” price.
On Saturday, Sept.24 Christmas will only be 12 weeks away. Auction items would make great gifts. How about a gift card for video games for a son or daughter – or yourself? Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers has donated a signed 2009 All-Star bat, a great gift for a baseball fan. An overnight stay at The Jefferson Hotel would be a great wedding or anniversary gift, as would a stay at the Courtyard Marriott. NASCAR tickets would be perfect for a racing enthusiast. A new Keurig Platinum Coffee Brewing System would be a great gift for a promotion, new office or new home.
Be sure to put ChesterFest and this auction on your calendar. If you would like to make a donation to assist The Shepherd’s Center with auction expenses (table and tent rental, etc.), contact Cheryl Fox at 768-0326, or Susan McCammon at 706-9198; donations are also tax-deductible.
