Chester Baptist Church will be implementing a new contemporary worship service Sunday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m. in the Great Hall, which is adjacent to the church’s sanctuary, and has brought on Glen Allen resident Kevin Hood as the church’s new contemporary worship leader.
“The church isn’t doing away with the traditional one at all, just adding to it, offering another alternative to the traditional worship,” he said. “And it’s not just music; what we are going to try to do is use more creative ways to engage folks with what they would use in their daily lives.”
Hood, who has been with the church since March 1 of this year, is planning to incorporate music, drama and video clips during the contemporary services. A musician himself, Hood has been a long-time learner of music, has played for the president and is an advocate of using the arts to benefit the church community.
Pastor Dr. Lloyd Braswell, who has been preaching at Chester Baptist for almost two years, welcomes Hood as part of the church community.
“When I was approached by the church, one of the things that connected me to my desire to come here was this church’s goal to connect to the community and to be an inter-generational church – to be a church that fits people of all ages,” said Pastor Braswell. “Kevin is the face of what we’re bringing in to help us in this process and it’s exciting to have him…and Kevin is coming on board to help us move forward with it.”
The new contemporary service will not interfere with the traditional one, which will continue to be held in the sanctuary at 8:30 a.m. For more information regarding the contemporary service, visitwww.thejourneyatcbc.com; to learn more about the church’s movement forward, visit www.chesterbaptist.com .
