Chesterfield County offers a limited number of prekindergarten spots in 12 schools to provide school-readiness skills to eligible children with the greatest need. There are no exceptions to age and residency requirements.
Beulah Elementary offers prekindergarten for children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30, who show an educational need and who live in the attendance zone.
Bellwood, Bensley, Ettrick, Falling Creek, Harrowgate, Hopkins and Marguerite Christian elementaries offer prekindergarten for children who will be 4 years old old on or before Sept. 30, who meet income requirements and who live in the attendance zone. A limited number of spots for 3-year-olds may be available but only after all 4-year-olds are placed.
Prekindergarten applications will be taken on March 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Harrowgate Elementary located at 15501 Harrowgate Road or on March 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fulghum Center located at 4003 Cogbill Road.
Applications will be reviewed equally no matter which date they are submitted. Only a limited number of prekindergarten spots are available, so applying does not guarantee acceptance. Parents should make sure they live in the attendance zone of a school with prekindergarten by calling 748-1666 or going online to chesterfield.k12.va.us and clicking “schools” then “school lookup feature.”
Items needed when applying include a photo ID, a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, proof of income and proof of residency.
Families who need more information may call 279-7357, 279-7352 or 594-1671.
