The CBC Pony League team has returned home from Washington, Pa., as the new world champion. Chesterfield swept through the series and claimed the title by defeating Tokyo 3-1 Saturday behind the four-hit pitching of Michael Day. Chesterfield fell behind in the first inning, but took the lead in the second with back-to-back homeruns from Phillip van Kueren and Ryan Hall. After a shaky first inning, in which he allowed two hits and two walks, Day settled down and allowed just two hits the rest of the way. He set down eight of the last nine hitters he faced.
Chesterfield also garnered several individual honors, as Hunter Williams took the homerun derby title, Hall was the outstanding hitter of the series with a .611 average and Day took the ERA title, allowing just one earned run in 10 innings.
