Matoaca High School, off Woodpecker Road, will be the site of two family-oriented events the weekend of April 5-6.
The annual Fine Arts Festival of Chesterfield County Public Schools will take place 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 5 and noon-4:30 p.m. April 6. Swirling with creativity, this free event will feature examples of visual and performing arts. Halls and rooms will showcase paintings, drawings, sculptures and other visual art created by students in the 62 schools of Chesterfield County Public Schools. Three stages will feature student performers, including drummers, guitarists, singers, actors, symphonies and show choirs.
Additional elements of the Fine Arts Festival include a musical instrument petting zoo, silent auction of original artworks to benefit the Beacon Tree Foundation and a performance April 6 by the Camerata Strings ensemble of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program.
On April 5, the second annual Warrior Awareness event will take place alongside the Fine Arts Festival. Warrior Awareness will include a bouncy castle and other inflatable fun, arts and crafts, games, face painting and refreshments. This family-friendly event is run by Matoaca High School student clubs to raise money for the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Warrior Awareness tickets will cost 50 cents each; the number of tickets required for each activity will range from one to three. Last year, Warrior Awareness raised about $1,500 to fight cancer.
