Fifth-grade students from Ettrick Elementary School visited the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to see the costume exhibit and to meet local artist, Matt Lively, for a tour of Richmond City mural art. Mr. Lively explained the process of creating art on bricks and his inspirations for his art work. Lively also took the students to a local gallery on Broad Street to view some extraordinary art concepts using technology. It was a wonderful day exploring the Virginia Museum, seeing the “Batman” costume and looking at the ancient Egypt gallery. Students looked for murals and for art decorated buildings as they rode from the museum to Broad Street to meet Mr. Lively. Art teacher, Mrs. Jenn Reagan had been preparing the students in her classes as they looked at murals and art that is outside of paper and canvases. The students engaged in energetic debate as they were deciding if the art they saw was graffiti or if it was commissioned art.
