Rachel DeGraba and Marcus Grant have been recognized as Seniors of the Month at Thomas Dale High School.
DeGraba is involved with the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and CCPS’ Specialty Center Dance program at TDHS. “The Specialty Center definitely changed my life and the way I think. It made me work a lot harder. Goals that seemed far-fetched years ago now seem realistic,” says DeGraba, who plans a career in plastic surgery
Denise Purvis, artistic director for the Specialty Center Dance Company, adds, “Rachel is truly a dance scholar. She is devoted to applying the work ethic and intellect we develop in dance to all subjects. She is also a strong leader in the dance company, and the school as a whole. I am amazed by her ability to not only balance, but excel in, school work, rehearsals, active club memberships, and private dance instruction. She is an asset to Thomas Dale, and will most certainly find success in college and beyond.”
Marcus Grant is a senior in the Specialty Center Music program and is involved in Tri-M National Music Honor Society, is drum major for the Marching Band, and plays trumpet in the Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble. “The greatest experience to me is seeing people grow, not only as musicians, but as people. That’s why I want to be a music teacher,” says Grant. Music teacher Steve Barton comments, “I have always been impressed with Marcus’ curiosity and desire to learn all he can about music. Whether it’s performance, composition, or instruction, he asks questions and brings compositions and arrangements for us to try and use. He is a remarkable young man, and I expect to hear much about him after he graduates from Thomas Dale.”
