After 23 years in the packaged ice industry, under the leadership of Mark Resnick, City Ice Company will merge with the Reddy Ice Company. City Ice started in the block ice business in 1903. City Ice, in 1998, moved to its location on Permilla Springs Drive, off of Bermuda Hundred Road, in Chester.
“I chose to merge with Reddy Ice, as I have been so impressed by the many positive changes their new leadership brings to this industry,” wrote Mark Resnick, City Ice owner and president since 1989, in an email. “Many of our employees have been offered a future with Reddy Ice which meant a great deal to me. More importantly, I feel they will provide my customers, whom I have deeply enjoyed working with, a continuation of the kind of quality and service they have come to expect from us.”
According to Cary Street Partners, in 1998, Mr. Resnick moved the plant to Chesterfield, Va., where he designed and constructed a state-of-the-art ice production facility. Through years of product development and a devotion to first-class service, City Ice became the leading independent ice distributor in Central Virginia.
City Ice has been a huge supporter of the arts in the Richmond area, from the Swift Creek Mill Playhouse to Center Stage and Barksdale Theatre.
Resnick said, “So for the moment, I will enjoy life before I start any new chapters.”
“Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Reddy Ice manufactures and distributes packaged ice products in the United States. With a nationwide presence, Reddy Ice serves a variety of customers in 31 states and the District of Columbia, and is the leader in providing consumers and businesses with ice products. Reddy Ice produces 18,000 tons of ice daily across 58 manufacturing facilities and 67 distribution centers,” according to a press release by Cary Street Partners.
