Imperial stormtroopers will invade Meadowdale Library Saturday, Oct. 5, and the local population couldn’t be happier. As part of Star Wars Reads Day, the library will hold a free, all-day celebration of the galaxy spawned by filmmaker George Lucas. The costumed villains will appear from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., but other activities will be taking place all day.
The event is aimed at families of elementary school kids, who are invited to drop in throughout the day and sample Star Wars-themed activities and books.
Visitors can play galactic video games and make Star Wars origami. One origami spaceship creator will win a copy of “Art2-D2’s Guide to Folding and Doodling: One Origami Yoda Activity Book” by Tom Angleberger. The library will have a Star Wars Reading Lounge where kids can explore a collection of Star Wars books. Bring your library card and check out the following Star Wars items:
- Graphic novels (full-length comic books)
- Unexpected formats like e-books and audiobooks
- Lots of books for beginning readers. Star Wars books are a great way to encourage an interest in reading, especially for kids who are reluctant readers.
Meadowdale Library is located at 4301 Meadowdale Blvd., North Chesterfield.
