Despite finishing as runner-up in the regular season, the Thomas Dale girls’ soccer team may get another opportunity to defeat Prince George, who won the regular season title in a 5-1 victory in last Thursday’s tiebreaker game, a game that Dale was without star senior forward Regan Flores and sophomore midfielder Jackie Zerull.
The Knights played the regular season out to a 12-4 record and an 11-2 mark in the Central District, losing two of three games to the Royals who are led by Central District Player of the year Jo Jo Taylor.
Flores, who has scored 20 goals and garnered 14 assists this season and a dynamic defensive combination of senior Katheryn Barisano and sophomore Katie Waring are just a couple of reasons for the Knights success this season. Head coach John Kabler speaks highly of his defenders and their knack for playing together.
“Katie [Waring] tends to be more aggressive on defense, she typically attacks more,” explained Kabler. “Katheryn [Barisano] tends to hang back more and clean up anything that may get by Katie.”
Thomas Dale played their first postseason game Tuesday and due to press time, results could not be published. With a victory, Dale would advance to the Central Region tournament. As always, check out @VNewsSports for the latest Central District and Central Region playoff updates.
