Freshman at Bridgewater College
Driskill had an outstanding career at Matoaca high school, posting a .409 career batting average while racking up four All-Central District honors and two second-team All-Metro and All-Region honors playing behind the plate. Driskill’s senior season was great one, as she finished the campaign hitting .435 with three home runs and 25 runs batted in to go with a .607 slugging percentage. Her play in high school paved the way for her to play at Bridgewater College where she won a starting role before partially tearing her rotator cuff. The aspiring elementary school teacher will look to come back next season stronger than before.
SARAH FULGHAM, Track & Field
Thomas Dale High School
Sophomore at VCU
Fulgham was a standout jumper for the Thomas Dale Knights in her high school career, highlighted by an outstanding performance in states in 2011 when she placed 4th in the long jump at indoor state and 6th in the long jump at the outdoor State Championship. This season for the Rams, Fulgham placed seventh in the Virginia Cup in the long jump with a jump of 5.33 meters in outdoor season, and during indoor season she placed 7th in the long jump with a jump of 5.50 meters at the Atlantic 10 championship. The sophomore also placed 5th in the high jump with a jump of 1.55 meters at the Navy Quad.
NIKI POND, Soccer
Matoaca High School
Freshman at Michigan State
Pond spent her freshman year for the Spartans recovering from shoulder surgery, but has recently been cleared to play. Pond will kick off her playing career at Michigan State next fall when soccer season begins. The goal keeper had standout career at Matoaca, averaging seven saves per contest as a Warrior, and in both letter years she earned All-Central District second team honors. As a senior, Pond played some in the field due to her shoulder injury, scoring eleven goals over two years at Matoaca.
