The Christmas season is underway for the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program. Last Tuesday, Chesterfield County declared the day, Christmas Mother Day.
During a reception at Magnolia Grange, Kathryn Lunsford, the 2012 Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother, was introduced to the community.
“For forty years, the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program has been instrumental in creating warm and lasting memories for those who are less fortunate in our community,” she states in her letter to the community. “As this year’s Christmas Mother, I am excited about the opportunity to help others have a memorable Christmas. Letters we have received from families helped in past years are testaments for the impact that is made on the hearts of those we have served.”
Lunsford is excited to serve in her new role as the 2012 Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother. She has been a Christmas Mother Committee member for five years and is the current Vice-Chairman of the Committee.
Lunsford and her husband, Charles, are residents of the Midlothian District of Chesterfield County. They have two adult children, Michael and Sarah.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from William and Mary and a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. Lunsford is a retired employee of Verizon Communications.
In her letter to the community, Lunsford recalls the fond memories of the holiday season. She will be seeking assistance from our community to ensure that the children and the elderly in need in our community can enjoy a holiday of warm and lasting memories.
Lunsford will be talking with many organizations and the media to enlist support. She will be asking for sponsors to provide new toys, clothing and food for families in need; for individual donations of food and monetary contributions, and for volunteers to work at the Christmas Center.
If you wish to invite Kathryn Lunsford to speak to your organization or business, are interested in volunteering, or would like further information about the program, call the Christmas Mother office at 748-1183 or 751-4657 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
