Police arrest bank robbery suspect “Granny Greenbacks”

Police have arrested a woman in connection with four bank robberies that have occurred in southern Chesterfield County since July 12, 2012.

Touwana L. Tate-Edwards, 48, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 19, and charged in relation to robberies:

  • At the Wells Fargo bank branch at 4400 W. Hundred Road at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 12.
  • At the Bank of Southside Virginia branch at 4310 W. Hundred Rd. at about 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6.
  • At the Virginia Commonwealth Bank branch at 4600 W. Hundred Rd. at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13.
  • At the Virginia Credit Union branch at 13025 Jefferson Davis Hwy. at about 4:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7.

Tate-Edwards, of the 13500 block of Evelyn Drive, has been charged with four counts of robbery, four counts of entering a bank with intent to commit larceny, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of threats to bomb or damage a building. She was held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond pending a hearing in Chesterfield County General District Court that was held on Thursday, Sept. 20.
