Nine graduate from Teen Citizens Academy

The Chesterfield County Police Department’s Teen Citizens Academy held its seventh graduation ceremony on Friday, Aug. 17.

Including this class’ nine graduates, more than 100 Chesterfield teens have completed the Teen Citizens Academy.

The academy offers Chesterfield County high school students the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of police practices and procedures. Along with presentations and demonstrations by officers, the class includes tours of the county’s jail and Emergency Communication Center and an open forum with members of the Office of the Chief of Police.

At Friday’s graduation, Col. Thierry Dupuis, chief of police, thanked the students for spending a week of their summer getting to know the police department. Crime Prevention Officer Tim Lamb said the department was a family, and instructors wanted the academy participants to understand and develop that type of bond. “You guys built an excellent team during the course of this week,” Lamb said.
