Pink dogwood for a special young lady

A pink dogwood tree has been planted behind C.C. Wells Elementary School in memory of former student Johnae Carol Ann Mayo (6/23/97 - 1/6/12), who passed away at the age of 14.  This lively young lady attended Wells from second- through fifthgrade, and her cheerful disposition and friendly greetings spread joy to her teachers and classmates.

Loving the color pink, she wore it as often as she could. In fact, her fifth-grade teacher called her by the name “Pretty in Pink”. With her family looking on, the tree was dedicated during “Earth Week” and members of the Wells Ecology Club surrounded it with pink azaleas, impatiens and coleus supplied by Boulevard Flower Gardens and the C.C. Wells PTA. It is hoped that as the young tree grows, it will remind Johnae’s friends at Wells of the tremendous strength that helped her conquer every day she had on Earth.
