Carol Spalek named American Legion Auxiliary Post 284 Lady of the Year

Each year the Post 284 Auxiliary membership selects an individual to represent the post as “Lady of the Year”.

“We are extremely honored to present Mrs. Carol Spalek as Post 284 ‘Lady of the Year’ for 2012,” stated Aleta Perkins, auxiliary president, as she presented a plaque and flowers.

This award goes out to a member that has gone above and beyond in envisioning the mission and purpose of the Auxiliary which is service to others, not self. She is a contributor to the American Legion and its many programs that assists veterans, children and youth, and she displays Americanism throughout our community.

Carol has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over eleven years. She joined the American Legion sponsored by her father Andrew Serafin. Carol has also recruited her daughter, Sherri Racer, as an auxiliary member and her two granddaughters, Amber and Ashley Spalek, as junior members to carry on the family tradition. Carol supports and promotes the Auxiliary with every given opportunity and proudly gives 100 percent of her time and knowledge to assist other members.

She currently serves as Treasurer in which she maintains a “flawless” checkbook. This is more than just a chairmanship for it requires her time year-round. Carol is past chairman for the Education and National Security programs. Carol learned how to crochet in order to make “toasty toe” slippers for our troops overseas.  She has participated in the Flags for First Graders for over three years and is always available to serve food at the various Legion functions. You will see Carol at all of the special occasions preparing for festivities whether it be decorating for July 4th celebrations or decorating the Legion Christmas tree.

Carol is a steadfast and committed team player.  Post 284 is proud and privileged to have such a dedicated individual represent Post 284 Auxiliary which is part of the largest patriotic women’s organization in the world.

Congratulations to Carolyn Spalek.
