Mmmm: Local Girl Scouts donate cookies to war veterans

Girl Scout Troop 3709, led by Lynn Alvarez, Jane Harrington and Giovanka Obermuller, collected 115 boxes of Girl Scout cookies this year to be donated to Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Hospital. Each year our troop picks an organization for our Gift of Caring supported by the Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth Council. During the past two years, we have collected cookies and sent them to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. The mother of two of our Brownies is a part of the unit that received the cookies while she was deployed. It was very important for our girls to support our troops especially when we had such a personal connection. This year with everyone back home, we decided to continue our military support but shift our support to our veterans at our local VA hospital. Our troop, as many in our area, is full of families with military connections. So this choice was very easy to make and support.  Troop 3709 has 13 girls. Most have been in the troop for their entire three years of scouting. They are finishing up as Brownies and are looking forward to becoming Juniors next month.
