Matoaca Elementary third grade students got a chance to find out a little more about banking and saving with a visit to Bank of McKenney, their local bank branch. After a short walk from their school to the bank, the students were welcomed by Bank of McKenney’s President and CEO Richard Liles, Branch Manager Debbie Schrum and the bank’s staff. After a brief introduction about banking, the classes took a tour of the various operations of the bank. They saw outside window operation, safety deposit room and where the vault was located, how money was counted and a lesson on saving money.
They also were treated to cookies and orange juice and a treat bag upon leaving.
Bank of McKenney has been welcoming young students to their bank for over 50 years, starting with the main branch in McKenney. Branch operations manager Courtney Turner was one of the young students several years ago when she visited the bank as a kindergarten. One of the tellers also remembered her experience visiting the bank.
Bank of McKenney has seven branches with their corporate headquarters located in McKenney and the newest branch in Riversbend Shopping Center. They will relocate that branch when construction is completed on a new building that will be located just off East Hundred Road in Riversbend South.
