Elizabeth Scott students recognized for reading achievements

The kindergarteners at Elizabeth Scott were honored on Friday, April 27 for recognizing and understanding all 31 of their “word wall” words. Word Wall words are the  high frequency words the children learn to recognize when beginning to read, as well as learning to use them in their writing. As the words are introduced to the children they are put up on a “Word Wall” where they are visible to the children at all times.

They began the morning with a parade through the halls of the school where they were cheered on by their fellow students and parents. An assembly in the cafeteria followed and each child received a certificate of achievement.  The Word Wall Ball proceeded in the gymnasium and the children performed the “Rose Dance” with the third graders, much to the delight of the parents. The Elizabeth Scott kindergartners are now well on their way to becoming exceptional readers and outstanding first graders.
