Southside Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is changing the way patients and their families think about and experience joint replacement surgery with the introduction of The Center for Advanced Joint and Spine Care, a comprehensive program that is based on a national best practice model for hip and knee replacements and structured around the fundamental principle of wellness.
The Center for Advanced Joint and Spine Care at SRMC is a place, a program and a team of exceptional orthopaedic surgeons and clinicians who are experts in knowing, anticipating and delivering care to the person having joint replacement surgery. The SRMC Center for Advanced Joint and Spine Care provides an environment that emphasizes wellness and maximizes patient recovery efforts through education, a culture of early mobility, family involvement and group interaction.
What makes The Center for Advanced Joint and Spine Care at SRMC different? The Center has incorporated a fundamental concept of wellness in every detail to help improve each individual’s outcomes. No individual coming to The Center for care will be treated like a sick patient, but instead, like a healthy person who is seeking to live a better quality of life. This idea is executed in our program by providing a dedicated unit, dedicated staff, a dedicated dining room on the unit, a care coordinator, the use of the individual’s street clothes rather than hospital gowns, a pre-operative class, group and individual therapy and an after-care support program, to name a few.
“This is not your typical hospital program or hospital stay,” reports Sharad Saraiya, M.D., Medical Director for The Center for Advanced Joint and Spine Care. Dr. Saraiya is one of eight orthopedic surgeons who, along with the administrative and clinical team at Southside Regional Medical Center, developed this innovative program to improve outcomes and provide a superior experience for individuals having hip or knee replacement surgery.
Southside Regional Medical Center officially opened the unit with a private ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 15. For more information concerning Southside Regional’s newest offering in advanced patient care, please contact Lisa Mears, RN, Joint Care Coordinator, at 804-765-5652.
