Olympic experience for local student athletes

Local Students will be participating in the International Children’s Games in Daegu, Korea this summer complete with an opening ceremony which includes a parade of more than 2000 coaches and athletes from 50 different countries, lighting of the torch, raising of the Games flag, and even reciting the athletes’ oath.  The program will include 8 different sports with Chesterfield area students participating in swimming and Track & Field.  Students will stay in an athletes’ village with many cultural and sightseeing events.  Team Chesterfield organizes the delegation who will represent Chesterfield at this prestigious international event for 12-15 year olds which is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee.

Congratulations to swimmer Matthew McNeil and long distance runners David Evers and Sadie Sandifer who were the first three Chesterfield area athletes to be selected to this year’s team.

Chesterfield can take two more track participants and/or two more swimmers, however all additional athletes must be registered by March 28.  The athletes cost to participate is subsidized by both the International Children’s Games and local sponsor Haley Buick GMC and Team Chesterfield provides fundraising opportunities.  For more information, visit  www.teamchesterfield.org or e-mail Team Chesterfield at  teamchesterfield@comcast.net.
