The boys and girls tennis teams have gotten off to their best starts in school history by beginning the season with 4-0 marks. Both squads celebrated victories last Thursday in matches against Thomas Dale. The wins mark the first time the Warriors have defeated Dale in league play.
“I am just thrilled about our start,” Matoaca girls’ coach Nolan Shigley said. “Thomas Dale has set such a high standard in the Central District and it is exciting for us to raise our game to their level.”
The Warriors are blessed with about a dozen players on each squad competing for a top-six spot. The competition has elevated team play across the board. Steven Bond and Darrya Uzell continue to lead the Warriors from their No. 1 positions.
Matoaca takes the next step this week in taking on district powerhouse Prince George.
