First Ultimate Cup soccer tournament held

The inaugural Ultimate Cup youth soccer tournament was held in February and early March. The Ultimate Cup is a joint venture between the Richmond Kickers and Chesterfield United, and is cosponsored by the Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation. The girls’ tournament was held the weekend of Feb. 25-26, and the boys’ was held March 3-4. More than 150 youth teams competed each weekend, with teams coming from as far away as Minnesota and Quebec.

In addition, an exhibition game was played each weekend of the tournament. On Sunday, Feb. 26, the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team played East Carolina, and on Sunday, March 4, the Kickers Pro Team competed  against the VCU men’s team. The exhibition games were played at Ukrop Park, 5300 Ridgedale Parkway. The tournament games were played at a variety of sites around Chesterfield County, including Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge, the Hensley Soccer Complex and SportsQuest.
