For the third year, Meadowbrook High School will be hosting its Championship Football Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Feb. 25. from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Meadowbrook High School.
The clinic, which started as a fundraiser for Monarchs football, has turned into an event that was attended regionally by over 400 coaches last year, from states such as Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Not only has the clinic served as a suitable fundraiser for Meadowbrook football, it has also given area coaches in youth leagues such as the Chesterfield Quarterback League and the Chesterfield Giants opportunities to receive coaching education.
“With this type of program in our area, it improves our youth football players to be better players and better people,” said Meadowbrook Head Coach Troy Taylor, who got the idea to start his own clinic after attending a clinic for several years at DeMatha High School in Maryland.
For area coaches, according to Taylor, this is an opportunity to improve their players, which improves the strength of high school football teams in the area. This camp focuses on improving the coaches, which leads to better players, increasing networking among coaches and increasing scholarship opportunities, while improving methods used to make athletes play at a higher level.
This year, headlining the event will be Shane Beamer from Virginia Tech, Jim Reid from U.Va. (formerly a head coach at Richmond), Turner Gill from Liberty University and Tom Bratton from the University of Maryland, who was the first coach at L.C. Bird High School. With 29 coaches scheduled to speak on a variety of topics, the event is poised to top last year’s success.
“This clinic is a great opportunity for high school and youth football coaches to learn from some of the best college coaches in the region,” Taylor said.
The cost of the clinic is $30, if prepaid by Feb. 17, and $40 the day of the clinic. There are also staff rates available of up to ten coaches for $150. For more information on the clinic, contact Troy Taylor at 804-743-3675 ext. 245 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
