Max sheds some light on 2012

Hello and welcome back to the interesting world of the Dogpound.  If you think your life is getting a bit dimmer then you are probably correct because as of January 1st of 2012 the 100 watt light bulb can no longer be produced or imported; they will be replaced by compact fluorescent light bulbs.  Once the current supply of 100 watt light bulbs in stock are gone, they will never come back and over the next few years this will apply to all standard incandescent bulbs.  Not only will your light get a bit dimmer, it will cost you a lot more to save that energy money [spread out over 5-8 years], and our friends the Chinese thank you, since they are the primary manufacturer of this type of fluorescent bulb due to the fact that the bulbs contain a small amount of mercury [none are produced in the USA].  At this point I should add that if you break one make sure you consult your EPA guidelines for proper clean up and disposal…I kid you not.    Now on another note…I am sure you have seen memorial markers along the road that indicate the death of a loved one due to a tragic automotive related accident.  Well, Illinois has been asked to allow memorial markers for cattle who have been killed on the highway.  Yep, PETA has petitioned the Illinois Department of Transportation to allow them to purchase the markers to pay tribute to more than 20 head of cattle that were killed by negligent drivers in 2011. How they got the keys to the family car when the farmer was not looking, I have no idea.

“Don’t you think it is a bit of an oxymoron moment when the government mandates how you will save money?”  Dogpound Wisdom

  • Sign on Septic Tank, Caution: “Tank full of Politicians Promises.”
  • The USDA replaced the food pyramid with the “food plate”. After years of the food pyramid, many Americans ended up shaped like pyramids.”
  • Overheard:  “The payroll tax cut really looks like the government is re-gifting my Social Security benefits.”
  • Overheard: “I tell you it is a sad day when my pharmacy list is longer than my grocery list.”

I went to Lowe’s the other day to get some plant food…the type that you mix with water and you use it to help flowers, etc. last longer.  I could not find any, so I asked the young clerk if they carried any plant food that you mix in water to help plants survive longer.  She had a hard time understanding the concept so she called over a fellow “young” clerk-mate and who like-wise was struggling with the concept till she final offered…”Well, maybe if you made like a sandwich and stuck in the vase, would that work?”  [Mr. Flower, would you like cheese on that ham and rye?]

That is a wrap.  As always be good, play safe and remember to stock up on 100 watt bulbs, your kids may want to sell them on EBay in 20 years as antiques.
