Reckless driver causing near fatal crash, sought by police

The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating a crash that occurred on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, and police have asked the Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program for assistance.

Between 8:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., the victim’s truck was being tailgated on Old Bermuda Hundred Road as it traveled east. As the vehicles approached Lawing Drive, the tailgating vehicle passed the victim’s vehicle. By doing so, the passing vehicle crossed the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic. In order to avoid a potentially fatal crash, the victim veered off of the roadway and struck a tree. The victim and one passenger were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Both are now recovering from those injuries.

A nearby surveillance camera captured the crash, and a clip from that video may be viewed on our website, From the main page, select the Crime of the Week link.
