Area Hokies become Marching Virginians at Va. Tech

Several local Virginia Tech students have gained membership to the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech.  Commonly known as The Spirit of Tech, The Marching Virginians celebrate their 38th anniversary season with entertaining performances and lively music to support the Hokies during the 2011-2012 football season. Under the direction of David McKee and Polly Middleton, the band will feature music of America throughout the season, in addition to music of the Jackson 5, the Beatles, and others.

Founded in 1974, The Marching Virginians have performed for hundreds of football games and parades. The band has also received numerous compliments for outstanding performances at Virginia Tech’s recent bowl games including the 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta, Ga. and the 2008, 2009 and 2011 Orange Bowls in south Florida. New members are:

Catherine Morgan, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Va., majoring in interior design in the College of Engineering; Henri Tetreault, a sophomore from Chester, Va., majoring in theatre arts in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; Harry Seeley, a freshman from Chester, Va., is majoring in economics in the Pamplin College of Business; Daniel Critchfield, a sophomore from Chester, Va., majoring in biochemistry in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; Liz Rogers, a junior from Chesterfield, Va., majoring in human development in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences;  Alex Calhoun, a freshman from Chesterfield, Va., majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering; Eric Clark, a fifth year from Richmond, Va., majoring in accounting in the Pamplin College of Business; and Ian Hines, a sophomore from Richmond, Va. majoring in biochemistry in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
