The Kiwanis Club of Chester treasurer Bob Cassada presented Helen Hughes of CCHASM a check for $1,000 as a supplemental donation for the CCHASM Thanksgiving program.
CCHASM is a non-profit organization that serves those individuals and families in Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Prince George and Dinwiddie who have found themselves in an economic crisis. Clients assisted by CCHASM are local residents, individuals and families who, for various reasons (loss of jobs, medical emergencies, loss of the primary income member, recent disability), are experiencing an acute economic crisis which threatens their basic survival needs.
For Thanksgiving 2010, CCHASM was able to provide assistance in the way of a Thanksgiving Gift Meal Package and Gift Card (for perishable items) to 1546 families representing 3461 adults and 2652 children. This year CCHASM set a goal of assisting 2,000 families. When the Kiwanis Club of Chester learned that CCHASM was falling short of its goal, they provided an additional $1,000 above their normal donation.
Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation to CCHASM can mail it to their office at PO Box 1741, Chesterfield, VA 23832. CCHASM’s phone number is 804-796-3715 for persons wishing to arrange drop-off of food items. The items needed for the Thanksgiving Gift Meal Package are listed on the website at www.cchasm.org.
