July 9, Performing at Pocahontas State Park are The Catalinas, who have been a fixture of the Carolina beach music scene for nearly 50 years. A horn-driven band that sounds a little like a light version of Chicago, the Catalinas are known for the regional hit You Haven’t the Right and the beach-music anthem, Summertime’s Calling Me. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m.

July 22, Ettrick-Matoaca Library. Chesterfield’s Amazing Tales. Do you know there are coal mines under Midlothian, how Old Gun Road got its name or about a submarine and aircraft carrier on the James River in 1862? Dennis Farmer has amazing tales for you.                

July 23-24, Henricus Historical Park presents Colonial Trade & Tobacco – America’s First Successful Commercial Export: Discover how agriculture and trade affected the economics, politics and everyday lives of 17th-century Virginians. Learn about John Rolfe, who introduced Spanish tobacco to mainland America, and how tobacco became the colony’s first successful commercial export. Colonial trades such as lumber, silk, fur, sassafras and wine-making will be explored through family-friendly historical interpretations.

August 5, Family Fridays event on the Village Green, 6 p.m.                                                                    

August 6, Henricus Dauber Dash. Enjoy the 400th anniversary of one of America’s oldest settlements … through a layer of mud. Just like the Daubers that built the mud houses in the Citie of Henricus, runners will have a chance to relive their childhoods with plenty of messy mud on hand at the Henricus Dauber Dash. The 5-mile course starts in the Citie and goes around the trail loop at Dutch Gap, but this isn’t your typical trail run. Think much, much messier. Runners will get wet and dirty climbing, crawling and weaving through multiple obstacles along the way. This is not a race for walkers. Runners need to register for the race ahead of time.

Aug. 27, A Led Zeppelin Tribute at Pocahontas State Park.  ZOSO recreates the music, magic and mystery of a Zeppelin concert.Gates open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 28 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3
Sept. 3, Pocahontas Labor Day Blues Show with Tom Principato. Legendary guitarist Tom Principato takes the stage to perform an evening of exceptional blues. Barrelhouse, winner of the 2010 River City Blues Challenge, opens the show. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
September 5, Labor Day.        

September 6, Back to school for Chesterfield County Public Schools.
