Virginia Tech student, Chester local wins bass fishing tournament

David “Carrington” Wilmer won the Toyota Tundra Weekend Series Pro/Am Bass Fishing Tournament Saturday, May 21, at Smith Mountain Lake. The 19-year-old Virginia Tech student from Chesterfield landed four bass weighing 10.42 pounds, beating the other anglers in the Boater Division by just 0.02 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 3.30-pounder.  “I found most of my fish by throwing a Spro Little John crankbait around rocky, shallow flats,” Wilmer said. “I used a stop-and-go retrieve, and they hit it on the stop. I had about a four-pounder on but it jumped off right at the boat.”
