Matoaca Middle School eighth grader Andre Tolleris has advanced to the finals of the 2011 Virginia Geography Bee. Andre is the son of David and Christine Tolleris.
The National Geographic Society conducts its national bee each year for students in grades four through eight. School winners take a written test, with the top 100 scorers advancing to statewide competitions. Andre will travel to this year’s Virginia competition to be held on April 1 at Shenandoah University in Winchester. Each state winner will then advance to the National Geography Bee in Washington, DC. The nation’s top geographer will receive a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society and an all expense paid trip to the Galapagos Islands.
