Bird alum Eric McBride is 2010 CAA Football Co-defensive Player of the Year

Eric McBride, an LC Bird graduate, has been making news on the defensive side of the Richmond Spiders since 2007. He finished out his season as the 2010 CAA Football Co-defensive Player of the Year averaging 10.7 tackles, 54 starts. Three time he was named first team all-CAA Football. He's also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award That award is coveted by the top defensive players in the FCS (Football Championship Subdivison). The 6'-2" 232 pound McBride was second on The University of Richmond's list of career tackles.

11/16/10 - CAA WEEK 11 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Eric McBride, LB, Richmond, garnered his second CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week honor this season after leading the Spiders to a second-half shutout of Rhode Island on Senior Day at Robins Stadium. The senior made the most of his final regular season home game and 53rd-consecutive start by logging 13 tackles, a forced-fumble and recovery and a 20-yard interception return against the Rams. McBride and the Richmond defense forced seven turnovers on the day, and has now given up just 32 second-half points over the its last seven games. The linebacker’s 13 tackle effort moved him into second place on Richmond’s all-time tackle list with 441 in his four-year career. - CAA football


He was All-CAA Football First Team selection in each of his three seasons, winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award as a redshirt freshman in 2007. In that season, McBride corralled a career-high 126 tackles. The athletic playmaker, who flies to the ball with his speed, had 108 tackles as a sophomore and 93 as a junior in 2009...2008: College Sporting News First Team All-American... First Team All-CAA Football... Led the team in tackles for the second-straight season, making 108 stops in 2008... His first two career interceptions came last season at UMass and versus Montana in the National Championship game...
