On Thursday, Nov. 11, more than 1,200 Elizabeth Davis Middle School students, faculty and staff gathered on the front lawn of the school to commemorate Veterans Day with a brief flag raising ceremony. Lt. Col. Smith of nearby Fort Lee, accompanied by eight other soldiers, carried out the ceremony, according to information from Catherine Arnold. When the flag reached the top of the pole, the school’s stage band performed the national anthem. After the ceremony, Smith gave a brief presentation to eighth graders about the meaning and importance of Veterans Day, which was followed by a question and answer session with the visiting soldiers.
