The Matoaca Warriors completed their regular season with an impressive 151-162 victory over the Thomas Dale Knights on the par-36 layout at The Country Club at the Highlands. Sharing medalist honors were the Knight’s Griffin Clark and the Warrior’s Tyler Hancock. Both golfers fired one-over-par rounds. Matoaca continued its consistent play by keeping all six of its players at 40 or under. Michael Romig, Tyler Broach and Jason Wells all had rounds of 38.
In the district tournament at a rainy Dogwood Trace, the Knights got revenge in upending the favored Warriors 317-319. The Warrior’s countered with Wells (77) taking medalist honors, Jack Field (80), Broach (80) and Hancock (82).
Clark was named the district player of the year. He was joined by Romig, Broach and Patrick Johnson on the All-District Team. Romig, Broach and Johnson were also named all-academic.
The local teams will join James River, Cosby, Mills Godwin, Deep Run, Hanover and Lee Davis in vying for the Central Region title. The top two teams and top six individuals will represent the region in state play.
