Virginia Blood Services is still trying to recover from a tough summer of decreased blood collections and urgently needs all blood types, according to a press release from the organization. The inventory suffered even more after the Labor Day weekend, it says.
Virginia Blood Services, the sole provider of blood to 22 local hospitals, needs over 400 donations a day to meet the needs of those patients, the release says. Each donation could save three lives.
Visit one of four donor centers in the Richmond area – Chester, Arboretum, Innsbrook or near West End. Donors can also check online at www.vablood.org or call 1-800-989-GIFT (4438) to find out where mobile blood drives are happening in the community, it says.
All donors who give blood in the month of September will be registered to win the new 3G iPad. Details are available online at www.vablood.org/events_p3.php.
