Local athlete selected for national showcase

Brittany Andrews was recently selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase East (QDSE) at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., on Aug. 21-22, according to information provided by Donna Andrews.  The QDSE is a first-year event, though its sister showcases in the North and South are considered to be the largest fastpitch softball showcases of their kind in the U.S.

This first-year event has attracted athletes from 17 states and two Canadian provinces.  This year alone there will be nearly 5,000 applicants to the Queen of Diamonds Showcase events.  This showcase is very unique as athletes actually “apply to” this event individually and are selected based on many criteria ranging from ability, potential, academics, graduation year, coaches’ requests and referrals, Andrews says.

Brittany is a rising junior at L.C. Bird High School and she has been the starting pitcher on the varsity softball team for the past two years.  She also plays travel ball for the 16U Richmond Ruckus Team and they have qualified to play in the 16U ASA A Nationals in College Station, Texas, the week of Aug. 2.
