Chesterfield Baseball Clubs (CBC) has had a great run in the two local tournaments that heat up at the end of the July- the CBC hosted Bronco 11U World Series and the Boys Invitational Baseball (BIB) tournament, a staple in Colonial Heights for 57 years.
In fact, CBC brought home the 11U World Series championship last year, and won the last three BIB tournaments, with CBC National taking the last two, CBC American winning in 2011, and CBC National taking second place in the 2010 tournament. Last season, the final was a slugfest between two CBC teams- a 16-11 victory for CBC National.
The Bronco U11 World Series will kick-off this Thursday, July 24 at 8pm as the CBC team looks to defend its title after a wild 14-13 victory over Torrance, California in 2013. The tournament has also brought in international teams including international squads from Panama and other countries. This year’s edition of the Bronco World Series will include teams from East Mars (PA), Laredo (TX), West Los Alamitos (CA), North Lafayette (IN), The Bahamas, The Philippines and Mexico. The BIB tournament, in its 57th year, will commence on July 31, featuring teams from the Old Dominion.
CBC National, winners of the last two BIB tournaments return perhaps their top player in Christian Chambers, who played last year in the tournament as an 11-year-old. Chambers was Co-MVP of the BIB, and won with “Best Batter” award in the Bronco World Series, posting an eye-popping .733 batting average (11 for 15) with three doubles and six RBI.
There’s little doubt that Chambers and these boys are the next generation of high school baseball talent for our area- and a good percentage of these boys will also play somewhere on a college baseball field as well.
For the next two-and-a-half weeks, you’ll be able to head to Harry Daniel Park (Ironbridge Park) and Shepherd Stadium (Colonial Heights) to watch the future of Chesterfield high school baseball. Buckle up.
