The Jamestown 4-H Educational Center is sponsoring a “Send A Kit to Camp” and “Keep the Campfires Burning” golf tournament. The tournament will take place at the Williamsburg National Golf Club – Jamestown course located at 3700 Centerville Road in Williamsburg on Friday, June 18, with a Captains Choice Tee off at 1 p.m.

All proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit the Jamestown 4-H Education Center camper scholarship funds and capital funds.

The center is a joint partnership between the Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia State University and Virginia Tech. It was the first co-ed camp in the state of Virginia built on land donated by the C & O Railroad for 4-H programs. The camp serves 22 counties in the 4-H Northeast District and houses over 2,000 kids during a nine-week period of summer camp.

It also serves as a facility that may be rented for conferences and picnics, as well as school groups. The center can accommodate over 200 guests with four cabins and two lodges, all heated and air-conditioned with rest room facilities.

With no monies being received from state funds for the last two years, the center is in need of support. The golf tournament is a way to get people out for a day of fun, as well to serve as a much needed fundraiser to support kids going to camp and maintenance repairs for the facility.

The Jamestown Course is designed by the Nicklaus Design group and a 4-star Golf Digest winner. It is a favorite for golfers of all skill levels with an emphasis on conditioning. It has been said the course is so well designed that it could improve a golfer’s score. Player registration includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, range balls and a dinner and awards ceremony.

To register for the tournament as an individual or a foursome, or for sponsorship possibilities, call or e-mail Kate Coelln at 253-4931 or kcoelln@vt.edu for more information.

For more information on the center for your business, school, church or private function, e-mail ex266@vt.edu or visit www.ext.vt.edu/resources/4h/jamestown.
