Virginia Olympian, Kate Ziegler, will work with Chesterfield youth at the next International Children’s Games (IGC). Attending the International Children’s Games to represent Chesterfield County is a once in a lifetime opportunity for athletes and this year will be even more special as Chesterfield students will be coached by an Olympian.
Kate Ziegler competed in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games in Swimming. Not only has she been in multiple Olympics, but she has also been a World Champion and a World Record Holder. Kate is excited to share her Olympic experience with youth from the Chesterfield area as they participate in the ICG, an International Olympic Committee sanctioned multi sport event for 12-to 15-year olds from all over the world.
Chesterfield is honored to have an Olympian help lead this year’s delegation of track, swimming, and golf participants headed to Australia in December. Team Chesterfield is in the process of finalizing the delegation of students that will participate this year and is currently still accepting applications for the remaining spots in golf, swimming, and track.
Volunteer Gretchen Simard adds, “ I have competed in U.S. Nationals, competed in NCAA Nationals, and won Big Ten Championships in my sport, and participating in the International Children’s Games exceeds all of these experiences.”
Once team slots are filled for the 2014 ICG, Team Chesterfield will start accepting and evaluating applications for the 2015 ICG in Alkmaar, Netherlands in a variety of sports. Visit www.teamchesterfield.org for more information and e-mail Team Chesterfield at email@example.com to see if you qualify to participate in either the 2014 or 2015 International Children’s Games, as you too can have your olympic moment.
