About halfway between the Chester and Hull Street Kroger Supermarkets, a new Kroger is about to grow out of the woods on Iron Bridge Road opposite the WaWa near Chesterfield Courthouse.
The new store will mimic Kroger built on the site of the old Cloverleaf Mall.
The 22.6 acre parcel owned by Green Acres of Virginia LLC will include a 113,530 square feet Marketplace store, a covered fueling station and almost 600 parking spaces once developed by Kroger. Included in the site plan filed with the Chesterfield Planning Department is 7,800 square feet of additional retail space.
Although not fully approved by the Planning Department, the Kroger development will close the gap between Greenyard and Courtyard roads leaving little developable land East to Lewis Road.
Kroger Marketplaces offers a large food ready-to-go and food made-to-order; a large wine, cheese and bakery department. Some Kroger stores carry furniture and home goods, but are in the process of replacing the furniture section with clothing.
The site plan has yet to be approved by Chesterfield County and there has been no news of a start or completion date.
In other news, Big Lots will open its new store adjacent to Lowe’s on Friday, Feb. 29. In celebration, they will donate $1,500 to Curtis Elementary School.
