Mildred Ramsey Wilmoth, of North Chesterfield, celebrates her 100th birthday on January 22, 2014. Mildred was born in Burgaw, North Carolina in 1914. Growing up, she enjoyed the country life with her nine brothers and sisters. They liked to go to country parties and play basketball. Mildred married Howard Wilmoth on September 5, 1953.
They enjoyed traveling and camping at Gwynn’s Island, Virginia. Mildred also spent time at her family’s cottage in Topsail Beach, N.C., where she and her sisters loved to fish. She has two children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She retired on July 1, 1975 after many years of service at Child Fund International (Christian Children’s Fund).
She continues to be the oldest active member of Chesterfield Alliance Church. Mildred has served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, deaconess, Vacation Bible School and Children’s church ministries. She attributes her longevity to daily Bible reading and eating a large bowl of ice cream every night. Her favorite Bible verses are Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strenghteneth me (KJV)” and Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (KJV).”
Her favorite song is “He The Pearly Gates Will Open.” Mildred has a large extended family who will gather on January 18 to celebrate and honor her for all of her love, prayers and support to them throughout the years.
