Thomas Dale’s central region powerhouse volleyball team entered their match last week versus Matoaca on somewhat of a down note. The Knights had lost two of their last three to James River and Cosby and were nearly upended by district rival Colonial Heights. It was time, coach Mike Walker says, “to make a statement that we were still the big dogs in the Central District.”
Make a statement they did. The Knights dominated a 10-1 Matoaca team in straight games 25-18, 25-18, and 25-21. Dale displayed confidence and poise in the match, which was concluded in less than an hour. The Knights displayed a powerful service game along with well-choreographed team play to control the match that was never in doubt. The Knights all around effort was highlighted by the stellar play of Mason Vivas, Jake McCall, Zach Seymour, Donnie Hevener, and Matt Knickerbocker.
“It was important for us to get back out on the court and regain our confidence after the losses to Cosby and James River,” Walker adds. The coach also praises the district schools that are stepping up their volleyball programs. “We are proud of what we have accomplished here in the last nine years and we couldn’t be happier that the schools in our district are elevating their programs . . . better district competition will make us all better teams.”
It was a great win for the Knights as they continue their drive for yet another Central District and Region title.
